India: 24x7 Pan India Mental Health Helpline Launched

In association with AXA France Vie’s India division and Delhi-based NGO Manas Foundation, the Minister of State and Parliamentary Affairs and Culture, Arjun Meghwal announced the launch of the Mental Helpline. The 24X7 free helpline will provide support and consultation to the needy by connecting them with counsellors and psychologists.  

Meghwal stated that the number of suicide incidents and reported cases of clinical depression has significantly increased in the pandemic period. He added that the initiative will act as a bridge between the need for care and support for the people suffering from poor mental health.

Echoing his thoughts AXA CEO, Gordon Watson stated that according to the mental health survey, 43% of the people across 11 markets in Europe and Asia are struggling i.e., showing symptoms of absence of positive well-being or psychological impairment. Ankur Nijhawan, CEO of AXA France Vie India Reinsurance Branch added that they have added inclusive insurance and cover as a part of the initiative along with providing re-insurance capacity to other insurance companies to ensure coverage to the larger public.
